Calculate how much annual leave an employee has accrued, taken and has left. Enter the yearly entitlement in days, the months worked and the days already taken.
Accrued Leave = (Annual Entitlement ÷ 12) × Months Worked
Remaining Leave = Accrued Leave − Days Taken
30 days entitlement, 9 months worked → Accrued = 22.5 days. Taken 10 days → Remaining = 12.5 days.
Saudi Labor Law gives employees at least 21 days of paid annual leave a year, rising to at least 30 days once they have completed five consecutive years with the same employer. That is the statutory minimum; an employment contract may give more.
It depends on the law and on your contract. Saudi Labor Law expects leave to be taken in the year it falls due, but the employee may postpone it, or part of it, to the following year with the employer's agreement. UAE law also lets leave be carried into the next year by agreement, and leave still owed when employment ends is paid out. Check your own contract and your employer's leave policy.
Pro rata is the common method: annual entitlement ÷ 12 × months worked. For example, a 21-day entitlement after 9 months gives 21 × (9 ÷ 12) = 15.75 days accrued. Employers differ on how they round part days, and UAE law sets its own rule for the first year of service (see the next question).
UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 gives at least 30 days of paid annual leave for each year of service. An employee with more than six months' but less than a year's service is entitled to 2 days for each month worked.
Not while the employee is still working, under Saudi law: annual leave may not be waived or exchanged for cash during service. When employment ends, leave still owed is paid out in the final settlement, in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the other GCC countries.
