Tanzanian payments split between mobile money — Vodacom M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas (formerly Tigo Pesa) and Airtel Money — and bank transfers, with the central bank's TIPS (Tanzania Instant Payment System) knitting the wallets and banks together for instant interoperable transfers. A business invoice is not really 'complete' without the accompanying EFD or VFD fiscal receipt, and corporate clients will ask for it before paying. Cash remains significant in trade corridors like Kariakoo market in Dar es Salaam, while formal-sector terms hover around 30 days with government payments notoriously slower. Cross-border trade with EAC neighbours is often quoted in USD, though shilling invoicing is standard domestically.
Step 1. Open the Tanzania invoice generator. Currency and tax are pre-loaded for you. Fill in your business details and logo; signed in, the company profile you save under Settings fills them in for you.
Step 2. Add your customer and your line items. Quantity, unit price and tax update the totals automatically. Switch language between Arabic & English as needed; Xuvilo flips the layout to RTL or LTR for you.
Step 3. Click "Download PDF". Your Tanzania invoice is generated as a print-ready A4 file in TZS, ready to email to the client or attach to your accounting system.
Tanzania applies 18% VAT on most invoiced goods and services, so Xuvilo defaults the tax rate to 18% VAT on the Tanzania invoice. You can override the rate per line, exclude exempt items, or add multiple tax components if your business requires it.
The tax authority responsible for Tanzania is TRA (Tanzania Revenue Authority). The VAT registration threshold is TZS 200 million in annual taxable turnover (raised from TZS 100 million) — verify the current figure with the TRA, as Finance Acts adjust it.
Tanzania has one of Africa's longest-running fiscalisation regimes: Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) have been mandatory for issuing receipts and invoices since around 2010, and the TRA now also offers the Virtual Fiscal Device (VFD), a software-based alternative that issues fiscal receipts through the EFD Management System without physical hardware. Every taxable sale must generate a fiscal receipt with a verification code, and buyers can verify receipts against the TRA system. Note that Zanzibar administers its own internal revenue through the Zanzibar Revenue Authority with parallel requirements.
Xuvilo isn't only an invoice generator. The same business profile powers a free quotation generator for sending price quotes before a deal is signed, a free receipt generator for confirming payments after they're made, and a 859 template library for industry-specific designs. Most Tanzania businesses go through quote → invoice → receipt for every project, and Xuvilo covers all three.
Mainland Tanzania applies 18% VAT on standard-rated supplies, with exports zero-rated. Zanzibar levies its own VAT at a comparable rate through the Zanzibar Revenue Authority, so businesses operating across both must register separately.
VAT-registered and most other registered businesses must issue fiscal receipts through an Electronic Fiscal Device or the TRA's software-based Virtual Fiscal Device (VFD). A commercial invoice alone is not sufficient — the fiscal receipt with its TRA verification code is the legally required document.
Exports of goods and services are zero-rated for VAT, and regional trade within the East African Community is frequently invoiced in USD even between neighbouring shilling economies. Domestic invoices are in Tanzanian shillings, with TIPS enabling instant settlement between banks and mobile wallets.
Yes — M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas and Airtel Money merchant payments are routine for small and mid-sized invoices, and the TIPS instant payment system makes wallet-to-bank settlement seamless. Larger corporates still prefer bank transfer, but a mobile money number on an invoice is entirely normal.

Yes. Switch Xuvilo between Arabic (right to left) and English (left to right) at any time; each document prints in one language: Arabic when you are using Xuvilo in Arabic or have chosen an Arabic template, English otherwise; and every field accepts text in either language.
